Taiwan - Gastronomy

Food is reason enough to travel to Taiwan. It is a rich blend of Chinese regional cuisines infused with distinctively Taiwan variations and spices. Fried scallops, "five spice" spice pork stir fry, and prawn cabbage.

Patroning street food (xiaochi) shacks is a common Taiwanese fourth meal. This food is sinisterly delicious and cheap. Everything from steamed pork dumplings, chocolate banana crepes, to a spicy oyster egg omelet. My favorite was the double fried flat bread filled with green onions.

Taiwan - Kenting National Park

Hayley and I explored Taiwan last week for Lunar New Year. In the warm south we took a bike ride down the coast to Kenting National Park to white sanded beaches and clear turquoise ocean. This Taiwanese boy proves that that game where you run from the waves is international. I was taking a picture of a temple along the way and turned around to see this bull staring at me.

Gwangan-li fireworks festival

I thought it would just be flashing lights, and mind you it was, but it really was something. I caught myself saying 'wow' without the slightest intonation of sarcasm.

Carving Party

At Amy and Brians pad carving some pumpkins. After we sifted the maggots out it came out quite nice. Beer, pizza, pumpkin seeds, and good company. Not too shabby.
